The first task of the Bristol Urban Forum is to crowdsource the themes that the Forum will look at over the year. What are your thoughts?
Some examples suggested so far include:
- Uneven and iniquitous bus services, cutting poorer people off from the city centre
- The pandemic of loneliness and how the city could be designed to bring people together more
- How we transition to a greener city in a fair way
- How we can create a better, more sustainable local food system
- Different ways of organising city governance to involve people in decision making and civic pride.
These are great questions you shared as examples: A few I can think of are as follows:
- What is the best-case scenario for what Bristol will be like by 2050 and how do we reach this inclusively?
- How can Bristol become a restorative city where mental health, wellness and quality of life are at the forefront?
- Are there alternative ways to extract more financial capital from large corporations based in Bristol to support positive change?
- Is it possible to have a publicly owned tram/light rail system in Bristol?
- How do we create, build upon and skill a climate emergency workforce that can tackle; energy generation/storage; warming/cooling homes and healthy workplaces; green, affordable and accessible transport for all; decarbonisation processes and materials; agriculture and nature; circular economy?
- How do we fairly retrofit all existing residential buildings so they require less heating/electrical/cooling energy demand?
- How do we revolutionise not just public transport, but private transport?
- How do we shift the focus more to restorative and regenerative approaches rather than just being sustainable?
